LBL_NEW.DOC v1.1a
by Wesley Leung
LBL_NEW.GEN is a modified version of dBASE IV version 1.1
LABEL.GEN. LBL_NEW.GEN allows for replicate copies of each
label/record. DBASE IV v1.1 currently allows copies to be made of
labels in a collated fashion only. This new version will allow
replication of each label/record. Currently the common way to
achieve this is to COPY the current database to a temporary DBF,
APPEND this temporary DBF back into the original DBF "n" number
of times, and then REINDEX the DBF such that the duplicate records
appear and print next to each other. With LBL_NEW.GEN a new
"Replicate" menu option has been added to accomplish the duplicate
copies.
CONTENTS
Three files are contained in a self-extracting PKZIP file
called LBL_NEW.EXE
LBL_NEW.DOC
LBL_NEW.COD
LBL_NEW.GEN
If you have recieved the LBL_NEW.EXE file on a disk directly from
the company, then there will also be contained in the disk the
three files listed above in an uncompressed format.
LBL_NEW.DOC - This is the current ASCII file that you are
reading. The file contains information regarding what
LBL_NEW.GEN does, how to install it and how to use the
new GEN file.
LBL_NEW.COD - The modified LABEL.COD file used to generate
the LBL_NEW.GEN file.
LBL_NEW.GEN - The new GEN file to be used instead of the
default LABEL.GEN file with the new Replicate option.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Insert floppy in "A" or "B" drive and change directories to
the dBASE subdirectory on the hard drive. Type "A:\LBL_NEW"
or "B:\LBL_NEW" to extract the files onto the hard drive.
If error exist during the extraction, you may directly copy
the three files - LBL_NEW.DOC/COD/GEN files to the dBASE
subdirectory.
2. Two DOS environmental variables must be added to the
AUTOEXEC.BAT or your dBASE batch file.
SET DTL_LBLOPT=ON
SET DTL_LABEL=LBL_NEW.GEN
The first environment variable turns on the optional label
menu, as described on page 41 of the TechNotes article that
came with the dBASE IV 1.1 release edition. The optional
menu in the LBL_NEW.GEN has been modified, an extra
selection has been added called "Replicate". The default
value is "1" and has a range of "1-99". The default value
makes no additional copies of the label, only printing the
original set of records. The second DOS environment variable
tells dBASE to use LBL_NEW.GEN instead of the default LABEL.GEN.
3. ReBoot or execute your dBASE batch file to include the two
DOS envirionment variables. If you get the error message
"Out of Environment Space", then you can increase the
environment space by inserting this command into your
config.sys: "SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /p /E:512"
If the COMMAND.COM is located under the DOS or other
subdirectory, add the path to that directory in the
statement. Also if this statement is already in the
Config.sys then increase the value of from 512 to a larger
number in 128 increments.
4. Now start dBASE IV as you normally do and create/modify a
Label Form. When you are done with the label, press
<ctrl-end> or select the "Save and Exit" menu - as both
accomplish the same task.
5. The Label Form will begin generating and during the
generation the optional menu should appear with six menu
options.

║ Bottom Margin { 0} ║
║ Advance by DEFAULT ║
║ Widow YES ║
║ Replicate { 1} ║
║ < OK > ║
╚═══════════════════════╝
6. The cursor will default to the "<OK>" option, press the <uparrow>
key and press <return> on the "Replicate" option. Enter the
number of copies of the original DBF you wish to make. Increasing
the "Replicate" value to "2" means making two labels for every
record in the DBF.
7. If you wish to collate the copies(print another set of
labels after the original set), then you do not necessarily
need this LBL_NEW.GEN but just need to select the "Output
Options" in the "Print menu" and choose "Copies".
8. You may now print either to the screen or to the printer and
the duplicate labels will appear.
